We were contacted by a large financial institution based on London who had suffered an embarrassing loss of data. An attachment to an email with extremely sensitive contents had been ‘sent’ to people outside the company by one of the Directors. Before you say ‘he/she did it’, it was the Director that called us in to investigate.
Careful examination of the computers with access to the confidential file, as well as of firewall and internet logs, enabled us to isolate an undetected virus which had sent a random attachment to addresses in the users address book.
Being able to rule out any specific attack on the business and track where the email had gone enabled them to carry out damage limitation and follow through with plans that the leaked email could have interfered with.
CSITech were commended for their approach to the project and the clarity of the findings report. |
